How do you spend your holidays? Some families travel, some stay indoors, some sip coffee by the fire. (Mm, that last one sounds heavenly.)
Some parents shop for long hours for their child’s favorite toy or game, waiting in long lines and spending countless hours online. They wear fun holiday clothes, attend parties, and watch the beautiful lights that adorn many neighborhoods and streets. When it’s time to eat, most families enjoy the meal they have chosen with the people they love.

Over and over again, when the most successful people in the world are asked about their achievements, they point to one thing: reading. They were all avid readers when they were younger, and their love for reading only increased throughout life.
Once someone has caught the joy of reading, little else seem so beneficial. It’s important to establish this joy while kids are near preschool-age—it will pay off a thousand times over. Reading reduces stress, makes you smarter, and teaches empathy. It’s literally one of the best things a person can do for themselves. But you can help your child start reading today!

It's amazing how children seem to have a limitless supply of energy throughout the day. Many parents find it difficult to keep up with their growing toddler or energetic preschooler. A great way to harness your child's energy and aim it at a constructive outlet is to get your child involved in a sporting activity. Learning the values of teamwork, discipline, and exercise are all excellent reasons to encourage your child to try out a new activity. Standardization can help in major ways. When we all agree on measurements, traffic signals, or punctuation systems, society becomes much more cohesive and we can all move in the same direction. That BBB plaque on the wall of your local law firm or the big letter A from the FDA at the taco shop go a long way in customers’ minds.
Of course, that isn’t to say that we all need to conform and be the same—society needs unique and creative individuals just as much as standardization. The two go hand in hand. But accreditation is a standard that says, “Hey, this is a good school. It meets these high requirements.”
The National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) is one such accrediting organization. They ensure its members have the highest standard of quality for education.
“NAEYC accreditation is the gold standard,” the website says, “for early childhood programs across the country. Families of young children who attend NAEYC-accredited programs can be confident that they deliver the highest quality early care and education.”
At Kids ‘R’ Kids, we strive to measure up to these standards, and lucky enough for your children, we have achieved them! We are a NAEYC accredited school, and we are the gold standard for childcare.Show Less

Before the weather gets unbearably hot (as we know it will in the TX summer) get outside with your toddler or preschooler and go on a fun family picnic! While the idea of having small children in wide open spaces may sound too exhausting, you can eliminate some of the stress with good planning. Anytime you leave the house with your kiddos, a great rule of thumb is to keep the outing as simple as possible. Cramming too many activities into one afternoon can lead to grumpy children and an exhausted mom.
1. Location, Location, Location – When deciding where to picnic start by doing it at a familiar place. You could even start in your own backyard or at a friend’s house. Being familiar with your surroundings will give you peace of mind to be able to enjoy yourself. Once your kids are older or whenever you are more comfortable, venture out to a local park or zoo for your picnic festivities.
2. Bring a Friend – Children almost always do better when they have friends to play with. Even introverted children appreciate the company of another child to play with outside. Being outside is the perfect place to spark imagination so having a friend explore with your child makes it even more fun! Plus, having another adult to watch the kiddos means you will have a chance to talk to a grown-up and have another set of eyes looking out for your child as you look after theirs.

An Easter Egg Hunt can be a fun event for the whole family, but did you know it can also be an educational opportunity for your child? Here are six creative ways your child can learn through an egg hunt:
1.Toddlers Can Learn Colors
Before letting your toddler loose to find as many plastic eggs as possible, tell your toddler only to collect a specific color or colors of eggs. This will help your toddler distinguish between different colors and make the game more challenging!
2.Toddlers Can Learn Shapes
If you’re creating your own egg hunt, fill plastic eggs with different shaped objects. After the eggs are all found, reward your child for naming each of the shapes found in his or her eggs.
3.Preschoolers Can Learn Numbers
If you’re creating your own egg hunt, use a permanent marker to number the plastic eggs before hiding them. Challenge your children to find the eggs in order from 1 to 20, or 1 to 100 if you’re that ambitious!
For the rest of the ways your child can learn through an egg hunt, read the full article here: What Your Child Can Learn From An Easter Egg HuntShow Less
Is your child’s back talking becoming a problem? Are you tired of hearing “No! You do it!” from your toddler or preschooler? There may be something you can do to help curb those annoying, whiny, temper tantrums.
Instead of responding by saying “You’ll do it because I said so” or “Don’t ever talk to me like that!” there are other ways to help your child learn to disagree with you respectfully. The best way to stop back talk is to provide your child with some independence – but within your own limits. Kids of all ages need a sense of personal power to make their own choices and express their differences in opinions with parents. When parents make all the decisions for them, children naturally want to lash out, and so they do — with words and sometimes, physical aggression.
So how can parents teach their children to disagree respectfully? Read the full article here: How to Stop Back Talking Without "Because I Said So"Show Less

When you watch your child carefully concentrating on each word you say, it is easy to understand how much he or she can learn at this young age. We offer our high quality infant care to help your child learn and practice the skills that will be utilized in school and throughout life.
Join Kids ‘R’ Kids Learning Academy of Cinco Ranch East in Katy, Texas as we discuss the importance of child care, and precisely what your future champion can expect to gain from our services.
Placing your child into child care affords them the benefit of an expansive vocabulary. A large vocabulary enhances your child’s understanding of test questions, explanations of complicated concepts, and even assists with basic emotional cognition. By allowing your child to be exposed to many different people’s vocabularies, you are enhancing his or her cognitive brain development.
Social and emotional skills
You may not realize that your child needs social and emotional practice in a genuine social environment. He or she needs to learn to cope with limitations set by others and understand why social boundaries and rhetoric exist. This can only be achieved through practice which in turn will boost your child’s confidence, public speaking, and networking skills that are vital for success in the real world.
Trust us to provide your child with excellent emotional, social and cognitive development and to ensure that he or she develops into a successful teen and adult. Contact Kids ‘R’ Kids Learning Academy of Cinco Ranch East for details about our superior infant care services.Show Less
We have all experienced it: your preschooler has never given you any problems in terms of behavior, aside from maybe one or two small instances. Then suddenly, without warning, he or she hurls a toy at you, telling you that you are stupid. Limit-pushing behavior such as this is really not uncommon in the realm of preschoolers. This piece will seek out the root causes of this type of conduct.
Your child acts on impulse
The human brain is incredibly complex, and is the last organ to properly mature after birth. Different parts of the brain will develop at different times in your child’s life. The prefrontal cortex is the last to develop. This part of the brain is largely responsible for things like cognitive behavior, social behavior, decision making, and personality expression. It therefore makes sense that this underdeveloped part of the brain may struggle to properly articulate certain feelings of anger or frustration, which will often lead a child to act impulsively.
Know your child and how he or she may be feeling
Preschoolers and toddlers often do not verbalize how tired or hungry they are. Unaware of how the child is feeling, you could have a toy hurled at you by a screaming child. Try to gain a more intimate understanding of your child. Become cognizant of when your child is showing signs of fatigue or hunger, and respond accordingly.
Do not overreact to these actions
Childcare experts around the world encourage parents not to overreact to limit-pushing behaviors. Instead, sit down and try to understand why your child is angry or frustrated, and work towards a solution to the problem together.

Next week we’ll be hosting our 4th annual Holiday Recital and we are so excited! While your children practice their musical numbers and enjoy spreading some jolly Christmas cheer, their brains are busy at work creating new neural pathways, improving language skills and coordinating their eye, ear and hand movements.
Music is one of the most creative ways to enhance brain development in young children. According to the Children’s Music Workshop, “Recent studies have clearly indicated that musical training physically develops the part of the left side of the brain known to be involved with processing language, and can actually wire the brain’s circuits in specific ways.”
The first five years of your child’s life contains the most critical window of opportunity for brain development, which is why we incorporate our exclusive Brainwaves curriculum in our classrooms. In addition to offering creative classes and fun events such as our Holiday recitals, our teachers work year - round to ensure that your child achieves new developmental milestones and reaches new heights of learning.
We hope to see you next week to enjoy all of the hard work your children and their teachers have put into this special Holiday tradition at Kids ‘R’ Kids Learning Academy of Cinco Ranch East!Show Less
Brain development is an immensely important part of every infant’s life - especially prenatally. Some of the most essential stages of brain development occur before a baby is born, and at a rate so rapid it will never be matched again during their lifetime. A baby will develop from a few cells into a fully formed infant in approximately 38 weeks, with a few of those milestones explored in the next few paragraphs:
Within the first 15 days after fertilization, an baby’s brain and spinal cord begin to develop. The cerebral cortex forms first, which is the part of the brain that allows a baby to react to the environment around it.
The second trimester is often considered to be the most important developmental phase for embryonic brain development. During this segment of the pregnancy, the brain will become fully developed and the number of neurons are established for life. During this period a baby will be able react to sensations such as smell, sound and taste and be able to control movements.
Folds of the brain continue to form fold during this stage. The baby will continue to master its movements even though it can see no one else in the dark environment of the womb.

We love this time of year! The turkeys and tinsel and family time make the holiday season such a special time. Unfortunately, car break-ins are always at an all-time high during the months of November and December. Thieves target places with a high volume of cars like shopping malls and child care centers since it’s easier to break-in, and leave without being detected.
Here are 3 ways you can protect yourself from becoming a victim of a car break-in:
- Keep valuables out of sight – Do not leave your purse, GPS, phone etc in your car. Always take it with you! Remember, a thief only needs 20 seconds or less!
- Remember to ‘Trunk” it – Sometimes it’s necessary for us to leave valuable stuff in our car, like backpacks or sports bags. The best way to protect them from being stolen is putting them in the trunk!
- Clean out your car – If anything catches a thief’s eye, even loose change, your car is a target. If clutter lives in your backseat, check out these tips for organizing your car. Try keeping a bag in the car to collect all the stray toys, shoes, and books so you can easily toss it all into the trunk, leaving nothing in sight that may interest a thief.

As a parent, much of your day is spent working, preparing meals, cleaning your home, and chauffeuring your children. You are constantly considering what is best for your children and providing them with an excellent educational experience is of utmost importance. In addition to the primary area of studies which are covered by a typical preschool curriculum, there are also several extra curricular activities and special programs to consider to help your child develop academically and socially.
Learning a foreign language like Spanish is one option that can include fun lesson plans, games, songs, and rhymes to teach vocabulary and basic conversation skills. Enrolling your child in a technology or computer-skills course is also very beneficial in securing the tools and resources needed to excel in higher education. Health and fitness classes teach your child about a healthy body, the food pyramid and family-style dining. While, music education class exposes your child to a rich appreciation for music and the arts.
When the time comes to choose the special program for your child, here are several questions to ask yourself and your school:
How much does it cost? At Kids ‘R’ Kids, we offer special programs included in the price of tuition and you also have the choice to participate in additional activities that involve a fee. Each childcare or learning center is different so be sure you know the cost of any activity before signing up. Remember to add the amount to your tuition cost.
How will the activity benefit my child? Look for long term benefits that will help with social, physical, and academic goals. It’s important to make sure that you understand the value of the activity and are listening to yourchild as he talks about the program. What does he like? What is difficult for him? Your child’s insights are important! Remember, having fun is still a good reason to participate in a special program.
Is the activity appropriate for my child’s personality and ability? This can be a tricky question. It’s important to recognize your child’s natural ability but as a parent, you can also guide your child through new territory as he discovers new skills and interests. Again, listen to your child as he discusses the program with you to determine if it is a good fit.
At Kids ‘R’ Kids Learning Academy of Cinco Ranch East, we are happy to provide several special programs at no additional cost. Feel free to contact us to discuss our special programs and extra-curricular activities and find out all the ways we can benefit your child!Show Less
We had such a great time at our 4th annual Trunk-or-Treat last Friday! Thanks to everyone who came out and enjoyed a fun evening of games, candy and costumes. As a Learning Academy that values the comfort and security of your child we realize that some children may be at the age where they begin to ask tricky questions about the “trick” part of “trick-or-treat.”
As a parent how can you be smart about educating your child when it comes to the spookier side of Halloween?
Here are some helpful suggestions:
- Explain that Halloween is all about make-believe. Some people like to make-believe they are scary characters but they are still regular people.
- Establish ground rules about Costumes. Older siblings may want to wear something scarier but with younger children in the house, it’s helpful to decide how much is too much ahead of time.
- Avoid any part of town where you know more “thrill-seeking” Halloween events are happening. No need to unnecessarily expose your child to an environment that is designed for a mature audience.
Your friends at Kids ‘R’ Kids of Cinco Ranch East hope that your Halloween is safe, memorable and filled with lots of yummy treats!Show Less
All across the country Trunk-or-Treat festivals have grown exponentially in popularity. Although it’s difficult to pinpoint it’s exact origin, Trunk or Treating began in the late 1990s as an alternative to trick-or-treating, according to Halloween historian, Leslie Bannatyne when interviewed by NPR last year.
The appeal of Trunk-or-Treating is significant for a variety of reasons:
- Safety: You are likely to know most, if not all of the people who will be handing out candy to your child.
- Community: Many cannot enjoy the traditional door-to-door trick or treating when they live in rural areas, miles from their neighbors. This is a fun alternative.
- Fun: Even the parents can join in on the festivities as they decorate their trunks and compete for awards like “Most Spooky!” or “Most Original!”
At Kids ‘R’ Kids Learning Academy of Cinco Ranch East we love participating in holiday fun and are very excited to host our own Trunk-or-Treat event this year! As a family-owned and operated organization, Kids ‘R’ Kids Learning Academy of Cinco Ranch East places a high value on the importance of family involvement. We know that parents want the best for their children and that is why we’re committed to offering the best.
A key element in making sure your child is thriving and developing at their best, is by valuing open and honest communication with your child’s teacher. With the start of every new school year, students and teachers spend some time getting to know each other and understand each other.
One way that you as a parent can assist your child’s teacher is by providing helpful insight into your child’s interests, fears, and tendencies. Consider letting your child’s teacher know the answers to these questions:
1) Are there any difficult situations/experiences I (the teacher) need to be aware of?
2) What really interests your child?
3) What are your goals for your child this year?Show Less
At Kids ‘R’ Kids Learning Academy of Cinco Ranch East we are always looking for ways to offer a better experience for our families. One of the ways we are pursuing excellence is by taking intentional steps towards energy conservation and waste reduction. We have already implemented several procedural tasks that have made us more energy efficient such as turning up the temperature when we go home for the evening and changing our policy on copies/printables.
This month we are hosting our annual “Art Sale” to raise funds for an electronic reporting system that would allow us to create the daily reports we provide each family for each child in an email format instead of a paper copy.
Since North Americans consume more paper per capita – upwards of 500 lbs. annually – than anyone else on earth, we want to do our part in eliminating unnecessary waste of our natural resources.

Getting your infant to sleep and keeping him or her asleep can be troublesome for some parents. Bedtime doesn’t need to be a hassle. There are simple and effective ways to encourage sleep, and insure that your infant will remain asleep all night. At Kids ‘R’ Kids Learning Academy of Cinco Ranch East we have been running a high quality infant care program for many years, giving us lots of experience in this area. Our infant care program is especially designed to ensure that your infant is taught in a safe and comfortable environment. Below we have listed simple ways to ease your infant into a restful sleep in Katy.
Decide where your infant sleeps best
Your infant should sleep alone in a crib or bassinet which may initially be in your room. Control the environment at all times, including temperature, noise and light. You want to created a protected area where your infant feels secure and is not disturbed. This will encourage brain development.
Do not make eye contact
It is best not to make eye contact with your infant when putting him or her to sleep. This will cause him or her to become stimulated to stay awake, and will result in the infant coming out of the sleep zone.
Loosen your ties to the baby monitor
Do not jump at every sound you hear over the monitor. When you hear a sound wait and let your infant soothe himself back to sleep. Should the crying continue, then make your way to the crib. As your infant grows they will become accustomed to sleeping and will wake up less. Making sure your infant is safe is the most important thing.

This month we are highlighting the Near East, more commonly referred to as the Middle East. This region includes Gaza Strip, Lebanon, Oman, Syria, Iran, Iraq, & many other countries. While this area of the globe is no stranger to conflict and civil wars, it also contains rich traditions, stunning architecture, and some of the most hospitable people in the world.
There are also some noteworthy geographical landmarks tucked into the Near East, such as the Arabian desert in Saudi Arabia and the Dead Sea, in the northwest of Jordan, which forms the lowest point on earth! The majority of people living in the Middle East practice the religion of Islam although there are also Christians and other minorities represented as well.
We know how important it is to instill in our children an appreciation for those who look and act differently from us and are passionate about creating an environment that respects and encourages people from all kinds of backgrounds. If you want more information about our programs please feel free to contact us or stop by for a free tour. We would love to show you all the ways we are so much more than a preschool or daycare!Show Less

The preschool years of a child’s life are special for parents, since young children are excited about so many new experiences. This is a good time for a parent to introduce their child to science through exciting learning activities. Your preschooler will learn to enjoy science, and you will be helping him or her learn about the world around them.
Learning from the comfort of home
Here are a few inexpensive and fun science experiments that you can enjoy with your preschooler utilizing basic objects from around your home. These experiments will teach your child about various concepts such as expanding gases and air and wind resistance, which are known as “invisible” forces. You can find these, and other experiments and activities, at Love My Science. Experiments include:
- Bend water with the static from a comb
- Release the trapped air inside an egg using only heated water
- Discover the speed of hot and cold water molecules
- Measure which colors absorb more light
Through these types of activities, your child will develop a love of science and learning, and will be better able to integrate into a more formal educational setting at the next stage.

How your child's brain develops from infancy to adulthood
- Before birth: Your child's first brain cell is born just two days after conception. At birth your child will have almost reached the full number of brain cells. The connections (neurological synapses) between these brain cells are incomplete, however, and have to be built.
- First eight months of life: In this time frame, synapses are forming rapidly in response to mental stimulation. In the first three months alone, they can multiply more than 20 times, forming over 1,000 trillion connections.
- First five years of life: During this time, every experience is a new stimulation for the brain, causing rapid developments and structural changes. This is known as brain plasticity. Constantly making new neural connections, the brain is highly flexible and prepared to learn. A process known as pruning reduces over time, but brain cells that are not activated during the first five years will be permanently lost. It is essential that your child receives the right targeted stimulation in these critical five years through developmentally appropriate activities that target different spheres of the brain. Focused stimulation and repetition in an enriching environment will assist in wiring the brain to help your child reach their ultimate potential. It can also help reduce the natural pruning process that can affect up to 25% of neural connections. Encourage your child's development by exposing them to lots of new, positive experiences. A trip to Mary Jo Peckham Park is an infant-friendly adventure to see ducks, the koi pond, explore the park and even have a picnic.
- Ages five to twelve: The learning process is still rapid from five to ten, but brain cells are being pruned away simultaneously. At ten, the pruning process speeds up, taking away unused connections in order to properly organize the brain's wiring.
- Twelve to adulthood: At this stage, the brain is still learning, but it is not as flexible as it was at a younger age. For this reason, older learners and adults learn new things more slowly, whether it is a foreign language or how to use a computer. It is the support developed at a far younger age that allows your child to continue learning successfully. They will then have an optimal neural structure as well as a strong foundation on which to build.
At Kids 'R' Kids Learning Academy of Cinco Ranch East, we understand that the first five years of your child's life plays a pivotal role in their future. Our scientifically developed Brain Waves Curriculum provides your child with uniquely calibrated incentive.
